ARREST MADE IN VALENTINE’S DAY HOMICIDE
Riverside –  On the evening of February 14, 2020, 57-year-old Rubidoux resident Grant Leggette Sr. was shot and killed outside of the Marriott Hotel in the 3400 block of Market Street.
Leggette had suffered “multiple gunshot wounds” and later died at the hospital. Apparently the victim was walking to his car when he was shot several times.
The investigation into who fired the shots began and lasted for over a year, goign to teh Cold Case Unit of the Riverside Police Department in January of this year.
In March the Riverside City Council increased the reward in the case from $10,000 to $30,000
Eventually, 29-year-old Moreno Valley resident Richard Kevin Baldwin was identified as a suspect in the murder.
Baldwin was already in custody at the Los Angeles County Jail on robbery and weapons charges. On June 25 Baldwin was taken to Riverside’s Robert Presley Dentention Center, where he was booked for  murder, personal use of a firearm and lying in wait.
Mrs. Betty Leggette, Grant’s wife, said: “I want to thank God for the strength, peace and joy this day has given me. I also want to thank the Riverside Police Department and everyone who have worked so hard to resolve this case resulting in the arrest of the man who murdered my husband. There are no words that will accurately describe my appreciation and gratitude for all the prayers, dedication, and hard work from so many that has given renewed hope for justice.”
