A 76-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of striking and killing a pedestrian while driving drunk, according to Sacramento police.

On the afternoon of June 23, an adult male pedestrian was struck by a sedan at the intersection of Stockton Boulevard and Lawrence Drive. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Detectives discovered during the preliminary investigation that the driver had run a red light, struck a minivan, and then struck the pedestrian. The driver and passenger of the sedan were hospitalized with minor injuries, while the occupants of the minivan were uninjured, police said.

Investigators also discovered the driver, identified as Edward Johnson, had been driving under the influence. Johnson has since been arrested and booked on felony charges related to DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
