Kern County Sheriff’s Office issues press release on recent crime activity, arrests

“On June 24, 2021, deputies learned a suspect wanted for several active felony warrants was staying at the Vagabond Inn near Buttonwillow, CA. Leonel Villasana was suspected of being involved in a theft from a vehicle a few days ago, where a firearm had been reported stolen. Deputies responded and arrested Villasana, who was in possession of the stolen firearm. Villasana also possessed numerous shaved vehicle keys, which are used to illegally gain access to locked vehicles (see photo).

On June 24 at 2:25 p.m., deputies located a stolen vehicle near Flower St and Mount Vernon Ave. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled, and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect then crashed into a fence on Highway-58, east of Mount Vernon. No one was injured. Two suspects attempted to flee on foot. Deputies located one suspect, an adult female, who was taken into custody. The second suspect was not located.

On June 24 at 7:33 a.m., deputies responded to the Fastrip at 11209 Weedpatch Hwy regarding a subject being shot at. The victim was not injured. Deputies identified the suspect as Jose Jasso, age 30. Jasso was in an unrelated vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated. Jasso was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition.

On June 21 at 11:49 p.m., deputies responded to a business in the 16000 block of Driver Rd for a burglary alarm. When deputies arrived, they discovered the fence had been cut. During a search of the property, two suspects were located. Both were arrested for burglary and conspiracy.

On June 21 at 9:39 p.m., deputies responded to the 700 block of James Rd for a suspicious vehicle. Deputies arrived and found the vehicle was occupied by a male adult who had a warrant for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. The suspect was sleeping in the vehicle. When the suspect was woken up, he drove away leading deputies on a short vehicle pursuit. The suspect eventually stopped and was arrested.”
