San Francisco man arrested in fatal hit-and-run case

A San Francisco man has been arrested in connection to a multi-vehicle collision that killed one person and injured three others.

Around 7 PM on May 18, officers responded to the area of Polk and Hayes Streets to investigate a reported vehicle collision and located two victims — a male and a female, both pedestrians. The male victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, while the female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe that the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche collided with an Audi A6 and then struck the two pedestrians. Of the four occupants in the Audi, two were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Avalanche reportedly fled the scene on foot, but was later identified as 57-year-old Virgil Woods.

Woods was arrested on the afternoon of May 21 and booked on suspicion of a multitude of charges including vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, vehicular manslaughter in the commission of an unlawful act, and felony hit-and-run.
