Wheatland Police: Suspect arrested in fatal G Street shooting

“This morning at 0045 hours, we received a 911 call stating there had been a shooting in the 200 block of G Street.

When officers arrived on scene, 55-year-old Wheatland resident Ralph Mendez was found suffering from a gunshot wound, life saving measures were performed, but Mr. Mendez was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Through the investigation, 44-year-old Wheatland resident Rory Banks was identified as the suspect and taken into custody without incident and booked into Yuba County Jail. The weapon used was recovered at the scene.

“This appears to an isolated incident and there is not a threat to our community” said Wheatland Police Chief Damiean Sylvester.”
