Robbery Morphs into a Hit-and-Run Homicide

LANCASTER – An April Fool’s Day, 04/01/2021 Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) update to a possible robbery investigation, which left one woman dead in the street, has revealed some gruesome details.

First, a murder took place on the 44000 block of 15th St West, on March 26th, according to LASD Homicide Bureau – Lieutenant Calderaro. Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators delved into the circumstances behind the death of a Female adult reported via a rescue call at approximately 8:22 PM.

Next, arriving Deputies “observed the female victim lying in the street suffering from severe trauma after being struck by a vehicle,” said Deputy Grace Medrano. “Detectives later learned that an incident occurred inside the apartment complex where the victim and her boyfriend were possibly robbed.”

Described as two male blacks, suspects were seen running from the complex, straight into a vehicle described as a light-colored sedan.

Tragedy happened when “the victim chased after the suspects and was run over by their vehicle as they fled the scene,” said Deputy Medrano. Immediately transported to a local hospital, the approximately 31- year-old’s significant injuries caused the victim to be pronounced deceased.

A recent development in the ongoing investigation has just revealed that one of the suspects involved in the incident turned himself in – to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) North Hollywood Division on 03/31/2021.

“The suspect was transported to East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station where he was booked at 7:30 PM for Murder,” reported Deputy Medrano. “The suspect, Jajuan Termell Welch-Arroyo, is being held on no bail.”

One suspect is still at large. The investigation surrounding the murder of Victim Mena is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
