A male gang member from Santa Ana was captured in Tijuana, Mexico after allegedly shooting a 13-year-old girl and adult man in Santa Ana.

The shooting took place in the 900 block of West Bishop Street at approximately 1:13 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2021. The two victims and witnesses informed Santa Ana police that a man driving a white two truck shot the victims, who had sustained on-life threatening injuries to their lower extremities and been transported to local hospitals.

Officers searched the area following the interviews and found the suspect vehicle in the middle of the street in a neighborhood close by.  The suspect was nowhere in sight.  The tow truck was seized as investigative evidence.

On January 19, 2021, an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect,   27-year-old Jesus Angel Lopez.  Homicide detectives collaborated with gang detectives in the investigation and identification of Lopez, “a documented gang member with an extensive criminal history and multiple prior firearm related convictions,” according to the release.

It was discovered the Lopez had fled to Tijuana, BC, Mexico, where he was located on March 3rd.  Santa Ana police worked with California DOJ Foreign Prosecution Law Enforcement Unit and Mexican Law Enforcement and arrested Lopez for attempted homicide.  He was booked into Santa Ana Jail.
