Sacramento man accused of setting fire to Mormon church in Willows

A Sacramento man has been arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a Mormon church in Willows.

On January 17, Glenn County deputies and fire personnel responded to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on North Humboldt Road, where a structure fire had been reported.

By the time they arrived at the scene, smoke was reportedly billowing from the vents on the side of the church. Deputies made entry to look for any victims or potential suspects, but were forced to retreat due to the magnitude of fire and smoke inside.

Through an investigation conducted alongside the Willows Fire Department, deputies soon identified 35-year-old Randy Louis White of Sacramento as their primary suspect.

According to a Sheriff’s Department press release, White has already confessed to intentionally setting the fire after breaking in through one of the church windows.

He remains in custody at the Glenn County Jail on $200,000 bond.
