Suspect in Custody for a Shooting and Robbery Inside a Room at Motel 6

WALNUT CREEK — A suspect remains in county jail following a shooting and robbery inside a motel room last weekend. The victim sustained a gunshot wound when the robbery turned violent.

Police received a report of a shooting on November 14 at 9:37 a.m. The 911 caller said a person had been shot inside a room at Motel 6, located at 2389 North Main Street.

Responding officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital to receive medical treatment for leg injuries.

Officers and detectives learned the suspect was probably still at the scene, holed up inside another motel room. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant and warrants to search two motel rooms.

A special weapons and tactics unit was organized to apprehend the suspect identified as Dashon A. Banks, 30 of Pittsburg.

The Central County SWAT team responded, comprised of police from Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, and BART.

At approximately 3 p.m., Banks was taken into custody by the SWAT team, without further incident.

Banks was transported and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on three charges. He is presently ineligible for release on bond.

His charges include attempted willful premeditated murder, and assault with a semi-automatic firearm. His third charge is robbery.

The investigation of this crime remains ongoing. Anyone with information can call Walnut Creek police detective Kim Gerstner at 925-256-3578.
