A male caretaker has been arrested on suspicion of raping a severely disabled female patient for whom he had cared for nearly 20 years.

The victim, a 45-year-old woman from Anaheim who has been described as non-communicative, was a resident at a live-in care facility in Anaheim.  “She essentially has the functioning abilities of about a 1-year-old child,” Sgt. Shane Carringer told a journalist in a KTLA article.  The location has not been disclosed to protect the identity of the victim.

The suspect, 40-year-old Raul Salgadocastro of Anaheim, is suspected to have committed the rape at the facility.  “A cell phone, believed to once belong to Salgadocastro was discovered to contain a video of the suspected assault,” according to the release.  The cell phone was turned over to Anaheim police for investigation, and the suspect was taken into custody on October 19, 2020.  He is being held on $1 million bail.

Salgadocastro is known to be employed at at least three Orange County care facilities.  Anyone with information on this suspect is asked to contact Anaheim Police Detective J. Carney at 714-765-1697.
