A disturbance occurred at the Empire Recovery Center on the afternoon of August 29, caused by a male subject who appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The suspect was destroying property in the back parking lot of the 1237 California Street center. He was also  trying to force his way into the center and “challenging clients to a fight.”

The suspect, 39-year-old Crescent City resident Steven Robinson, was unknown to anyone at the center.

Arriving officers tried to calm the situation down. The agitated Robinson would not listen and “became violently combative.”

During the five minute struggle the suspect hit officers, tried to put a choke hold on an officer, and reached for one of the officer’s firearms.

Thankfully the officers finally subdued Robinson and got him into custody. Three officers “sustained minor injuries which did not require hospitalization.”

Robsinson was booked into Shasta County Jail for resisting arrest, battery on peace officers an trespassing.
