The Riverside Police Department had assistance from a helpful citizen in arresting a man who tried to attack one of their officers –
“A couple weeks ago on Saturday, August 1, 2020, one of our patrol sergeants responded to a call for service in the 6600 block of Crest Avenue, located in the Arlanza neighborhood of Riverside.

A neighbor called police because there was a man sitting on a utility box in the front yard to a home and not responding when asked to move so he could finish his yard work.

The sergeant arrived to check on this man’s welfare. It was obvious he was agitated and the sergeant attempted to de-escalate the situation for a few minutes. But at one point, the man abruptly stood up and attacked the sergeant without provocation.

The sergeant was able to get the man on the ground and use his body weight to lessen the attack, and the neighbor rushed over to help the sergeant handcuff and safely take the man into custody.

We would like to publicly thank this Good Samaritan neighbor who stepped in to help. Thank you Jess Flores.

The homeless man was discovered to be on probation. David Roman Acosta, 27-years-old, was arrested and later booked into jail for using violence while obstructing a peace officer and violation of probation. He is currently being held without bail.

Our officers deal with calls and situations like this daily. We are grateful to serve a community that will jump in to help when needed.

Thanks again Jess Flores!
