Man pepper sprays employee out behind business

On the afternoon of July 27 deputies with the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office arrived to the 17000 block of North Highway 1 on the report of a fight going on behind a business there.

Before deputies arrived the fight had ended as one of the participants had been pepper sprayed and was leaving the scene.

The 30-year-old male still on scene was an employee of the business nearby.

62-year-old Jeffrey Thomas Wright was “causing a disturbance” and “accosted” the employee.

The suspect yelled at the employee, then “got onto his bicycle and started to leave when he then pulled out a canister of pepper spray and began spraying the exterior of the adult male’s work truck.”

Wright then opened the driver’s side door and sprayed the unnamed male victim, who then took the canister away from the suspect and sprayed him with it for good measure.

The suspect was located in the yard of a home in the 32000 block of Boice Lane.

He was arrested for unlawful use of tear gas and booked into the county jail.

The MCSO states, “In accordance with the COVID-19 emergency order issued by the State of California Judicial Council, bail was set at zero dollars and Wright was released after the jail booking process.”
