BERKELEY— Two men jailed last month remain in custody on firearms-related charges. The suspects were picked up downtown, with a semi-automatic handgun and an extended magazine in their possession.

Dante R. Oliver, 38 of Sausalito and Jessie J. McAllister, 26 of Oakland were allegedly involved in two separate incidents. Both suspects were located outside a 7-Eleven convenience store at 2601 Telegraph Avenue.

The first incident occurred about one mile west of downtown at approximately 8 p.m. on June 28. One of the suspects, McAllister is accused of pointing a gun at a woman walking alone near University and San Pablo avenues.

McAllister was apparently following and flirting with the woman. He allegedly threatened her with a gun, after she rejected his advances. She told police that she ran away to a nearby business to escape from him.

A short time later, gunfire was reported downtown near People’s Park, where both suspects were hanging out together. Responding officers searched the park and found evidence of the shooting.

Fortunately, no one was reported injured during this incident either.

Both suspects have prior felony convictions, and they are prohibited from possessing firearms. They were located and arrested about two blocks south of the park.

Oliver and McAllister are being housed at Santa Rita Jail located in Dublin. Bond for Oliver’s release was set at $310,000. McAllister’s bond was set at $470,000.

Oliver faces six charges related to possession of a firearm and ammunition, including assault with a semi-automatic weapon. McAllister faces four charges involving possession of a loaded firearm.
