BERKELEY — A warehouse worker suspected of committing at least two robberies remains in custody in lieu of $500,000 bond. Joseph Cardenas, 25, a resident of Richmond, was placed under arrest at his home by Berkeley PD.

Cardenas faces multiple charges implicating him in Berkeley robberies last month. On April 22, Cardenas reportedly threatened one victim with a firearm, when the victim interrupted a vehicle burglary. On April 23, Cardenas allegedly struggled with a victim and robbed his backpack.

Investigators determined the perpetrator fled in a vehicle registered to Cardenas. GPS data from cellular phone towers place Cardenas in the vicinity of both Berkeley crime scenes. Moreover, Cardenas is also a suspect in other ongoing crime investigations.

Berkeley PD searched his Richmond residence on May 3. He was arrested at 8:17 a.m. In a prepared statement Berkeley police said. “The search resulted in the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, suspected cocaine, and stolen property.”

Cardenas was booked for possessing a firearm, ammunition and controlled substances, and robberies. He is a previously convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm. Though he allegedly carried a concealed gun in his vehicle.

Cardenas is housed at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, where he has previously been incarcerated. Multiple charges including second-degree robbery are on file against him. Incidentally, he has prior arrests on his record for burglary, grand theft, and other offenses.
