A Sonora man was arrested on suspicion of theft after allegedly being caught stealing gas late last month.

Sheriff’s dispatch received a call just before 5 AM on Sunday, April 26, from a person who said they were watching a man later identified as 38-year-old Jason Peluso siphoning gas out of vehicles at Avery Muffler.

The victim provided deputies with surveillance video of Peluso, as well as a description of him and his vehicle. As luck would have it, they arrived just as Peluso was leaving.

Deputies spoke with Peluso and learned he was on searchable probation. When searching his truck, they reportedly found a gas can, siphoning hose, metal from the muffler store, paraphernalia, meth, and heroin.

Peluso has since been booked on suspicion of felony violation of probation, petty theft, tampering with a vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
