DUI driver stopped, “released when sober”

Statement from the East Palo Alto Police Department:

“Officers on patrol observed a black Hyundai driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The officers conducted a traffic stop and contacted 23-year-old Daly City resident Fred Buendia who was the driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai.

While speaking with Mr. Buendia, the officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and observed signs of intoxication.

The officers conducted field sobriety tests and determined Mr. Buendia to be intoxicated.

They transported Mr. Buendia to the First Chance sobering facility where he provided a breath sample which measured his blood alcohol content as being over the legal limit.

Mr. Buendia was issued a citation with a court date and released him to staff at First Chance where he was released once sober.”
