Ventura County – At approximately 10:00 p.m. on July 2, 2019, a quiet residential Port Hueneme neighborhood was rocked by the sound of multiple gunshots aimed at an East Pearl Street residence.

The family of five inside the home was watching television at the time of the violent attack. As a dozen bullets ripped through the walls, a 7-year-old girl was struck in the head and her mother took two bullets in her leg.

According to Port Hueneme Police Department spokesman Det. Jarrod Foote, the girl’s father carried her in his arms to a nearby fire station for emergency medical help just as Port Hueneme Police Department units rolled up to the scene.

The girl was immediately transported to Ventura County Medical Center and was then airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles for treatment of serious head wounds.

The ensuing investigation into the incident over the following five months lead detectives attached to the PHPD, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and the Oxnard Police Department to identify 18-year-old Oxnard resident Anthony Silerio as “the principal suspect involved in the shooting.”

He was contacted at his residence on December 18th and taken into custody “without incident.” Silerio was booked into Ventura County Jail on charges of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, assault with a firearm, and street terrorism. He remains in custody with his bail set at $1,000,000.
