Sacramento County Sheriff issues press release on officer-involved shooting

From the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department official Facebook page:

“On December 1, 2019 at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a call from the 6800 block of Woodmore Oaks Drive in Orangevale. The caller indicated her mother’s boyfriend was high on drugs and running in and out of the home. The caller stated there were guns in the residence locked in a safe.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., deputies arrived on scene and were confronted with a male carrying a firearm in a threatening manner. One of the deputies fired one (1) round at the suspect but did not hit him. The suspect subsequently dropped the firearm. Deputies approached the suspect and a physical fight ensued when deputies attempted to detain him. A deputy sustained minor injuries during the altercation and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.

The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old John Reynolds from Orangevale (see attached photo). Reynolds was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges related to this incident, including being a felon in possession of a firearm. It was determined Reynolds was the male subject the caller stated was high on drugs and running in and out of the home.

The investigation into the incident will be conducted by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division, which is standard practice for any officer-involved shooting that occurs in the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. An independent review of the incident will be conducted by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. The deputy involved in the shooting is a 2 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. In accordance with the Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures, the deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.”
