SAN JOSE – The San Jose Police Department announced the arrest of a wanted suspect in the shooting death of a Santa Cruz County resident that occurred on August 10, 2019.

The shooting occurred at a local shopping center located in the 1700 block of Story Road.  The suspect, 25-year-old Antonio Dominguez Pinal was identified as the shooter through forensics evidence and video footage.  When police responded to the scene, Pinal had already fled the scene and an extensive investigation into the shooting began.

It was not until Thursday, September 26, 2019, that police were able to serve an arrest warrant to the suspect who was currently in custody at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas. He had earlier taken police on a high-speed chase in which he tried to avoid arrest after two uniformed San Jose Police Officers tried to pull him over for not wearing his seatbelt.

According to police records, Pinal failed to comply with a traffic stop even after he had stopped and pulled over to the side. After both officers had exited their patrol car, he took off at a high rate of speed and sped through two red lights to avoid capture.  The pursuit, assisted with a helicopter and several patrol cars, continued the chase until Pinal was eventually into custody.

At the time of his arrest, Pinal was arrested for evading police officers and reckless driving. He was currently on parole for aggravated assault.  In fact, Pinal had previously served a third term in prison for assault with a deadly weapon.  He is now facing a new charge of Murder, and is expected to remain in custody during the length of the murder trial set against him.
