SAN JOSE – On February 23 as well as March 3, fires occurred in downtown and the Rose Garden area.

A suspect in these fires was seen throwing glass bottles with a fuse attached at buildings and walkways.

Then, on March 4, witnesses reported a man throwing Molotov cocktails out of a vehicle. His target was the sidewalk in the 16oo block of Emory Street.

Provided with “critical information” from witnesses, officers spotted and arrested Brian Gillean near South 5th and East William Streets.

The 34-year-old was booked on the charge of arson.

San Jose Fire Chief Robert Sapien Jr. said, “I’m very pleased with the collaboration between the San Jose police and fire department arson unit. The solid investigative skills on both teams have led to the quick capture of a suspect who was endangering our community.”
