Wanted murder suspect for 2016 homicide ID’d by police

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Police Department is asking the public’s help in locating a wanted murder suspect in the beating death of a San Jose man that occurred last year.

According to San Jose Police Officer Gina Tepoorten, “On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at 7:38 PM, San Jose Police Officers responded to the area of W. Alma Avenue and Mastic Street on a report of several people involved in a fight.”

San Jose Officers responding to the scene identified 51-year-old Alfred Perez as he lay on the ground brutally beaten. He died at the scene. Witnesses gave a description of the suspect in hopes of trying to locate him.

Through a follow-up investigation lasting well into 2017, homicide investigators were able to identify 31-year-old Joseph Miller as the person seen punching and kicking Perez as he lay on the ground.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call “911” or contact Detective Sergeant John Barg or Detective Wayne Smith of the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 408-277-5283.
