Tribal police catch felon with gun, ammunition, narcotics

COVELO — Tribal police have announced the arrest of a man following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of a gun, ammunition, and narcotics.

At around 7:30 AM on Thursday, September 26, Round Valley Tribal Police stopped 33-year-old Luis “Boo” John Oliver in the 76000 block of Crawford Road.

Noting that he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, as well as having a firearm in his possession, tribal officers detained Oliver and contacted the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

Responding deputies placed him under arrest on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a large-capacity magazine. Deputies also discovered via a criminal records check that Oliver, as a felon, is prohibited from possession of both ammunition and firearms and was out on bail for similar charges.

He is now back in custody at the Mendocino County Jail on $60,000 bond.
