It was almost 6PM on September 9th as a Corcoran Police unit was near Avenue 170, just east of the City of Corcoran, when the officer spotted a man driving recklessly.

The officer attempted to contact the driver, 58-year old Bernardo Lemus Medina of Lindsay, but instead of adhering to the traffic stop, Medina took off, heading westbound and eventually making his way into Corcoran on Whitely Avenue.

Backup patrol units attempted to end the pursuit near the 1000 block of Otis Avenue but Medina ignored their traffic stop commands as well.

At one point, in his continued effort to dodge the encircling units, Medina tried to U-turn and purposely struck the front-end of a patrol car with his car.

Medina’s slow-speed, westbound pursuit through the city came to a stop on the 600 block of Reagan Avenue when he yielded. When officers made contact, they noticed Medina appeared alcohol impaired.

He was arrested for driving under the influence. In addition to the DUI, Medina was arrested for reckless evading of a peace officer and assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Kings County Jail in Hanford with his bail set at $90,000.

No officers were physically injured during the pursuit and detention of Medina.
