HOLLISTER — Police arrested a 22-year-old Hollister man last week on suspicion of felony animal cruelty after he allegedly threw a puppy to the ground during an argument.

On Thursday, August 8th, an officer was called to the 100 block of McCray Street just before 10:30 AM to investigate a family disturbance involving the family’s three-month-old puppy, Buddy.

The officer discovered that 22-year-old Daniel Leon had been arguing with another family member and, at one point, picked Buddy up and threw him to the ground.

Animal Control officers responded to the scene and confirmed that Buddy’s left leg had been seriously injured, at which point he was taken to a veterinarian.

Following a thorough examination including an X-ray, it turned out Buddy had suffered extensive soft tissue damage to his hind end and left side, but no broken bones. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Leon, meanwhile, was arrested and remains in custody.
