Arrest Made in Hit and Run: Vehicle vs Pedestrian

Just after 10:30PM on 06/28/2019, Santa Ana Police Department were called to the intersection of 1st and Townsend Street. A collision had occurred in which a black or dark colored Toyota Camry heading east struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was in his wheelchair crossing 1st Street within the marked cross walk, heading south when he was struck. The driver of the Camry failed to stop after striking the pedestrian and continued east on 1st.

The victim was barely breathing when cops arrived. His faint pulse and shallow breathing seized before Orange County Fire Authority Personnel arrived and took over for officers who had begun CPR. He was admitted to a local hospital, his condition –  extremely critical.

The next morning, a citizen noticed a parked car resembling the description of the vehicle involved in the accident, a black or dark colored Toyota Camry with extensive damage to its front end. The citizen alerted Santa Ana Police who came out and determined the vehicle was indeed the one involved in the hit and run.

Continued investigation led detectives to Lucio Luna, a 48- year old resident of Santa Ana, and the suspected driver of the Camry at the time of the collision. Luna was arrested on 06/29/2019 and charged with felony hit and run. He was booked into Orange County Jail of which he bonded out on 07/02/2019.
