SONORA – On the evening of Thursday June 6th the Sonora Police Department responded to a situation at 45 Shepherd Street where a man was yelling and hitting a vehicle.

Responding officers observed 37-year-old David Sean Johnson break the rear window out of a parked SUV using an axe. The shirtless man was quickly detained and put into a patrol car.

The incident apparently began when a neighbor asked Johnson to leave. Instead, the suspect took off his shirt, challenged the neighbor to a fight, and broke the mirror off of his own SUV.

Johnson was on probation for felony battery. He was also intoxicated, which violated the terms of his probation.

He was “booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for felony violation of probation, felon in possession of ammunition (one Colt .45 round) and public intoxication.”
