PALO ALTO – The Palo Alto Police Department has confirmed that it has made an arrest of an individual caught burglarizing an occupied home Saturday morning.  According to police, 23-year-old Abraham Martinez of San Jose was arrested for felony residential burglary, and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Police received a 9-1-1 call at 6:10 a.m on Saturday, June 15, 2019, in which a couple living in the 600 block of Oregon Avenue woke up to someone opening their front door.

The husband quickly checked the front door and watched as a male suspect exited their home and walked down the street.  Dispatched to the scene, Palo Alto Police identified a suspect walking just blocks from the scene and located what was a set of keys on the sidewalk next to the suspect.

Police believe that the suspect entered the couple’s home in an attempt to burglarize them but, not seeing anything of value, chose to steal their car keys.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voicemail to 650-383-8984.
