Police Cars Rammed in Wrong-Way Freeway Pursuit

POMONA – Just after midnight on Sunday April 28th, a Montebello man let loose on the roadways of Pomona.  As the Pomona Police Department arrived at Indian Hill and San Bernardino Avenue regarding a call at about a man with a knife, Jairo Guerrero, DOB 10/28/1990 fled the scene. An attempt to initiate a traffic stop proved fruitless and a high-speed car chase ensued.

As the suspect blasted through Pomona and Montclair surface streets and the freeway, the car was clocked at speeds of 100 MPH. Twice, he made wrong way freeway dashes. He also rammed PD vehicles who gave chase.

The 20-minute pursuit eventually came to a halt when the suspect’s front tire fell off. Nonplussed, the man leapt out and ran up an embankment at the interchange of the 57 freeway and Interstate 10.

By this time, PD helicopters from El Monte, Pasadena, and L.A. County Sheriffs Department assisted with lighting to locate the scofflaw. Air support pinpointed the suspect’s location and Pomona PD officers took Guerrero into custody and hew was booking into the Pomona City Jail. He now faces charges of 2800.2 CVC – Felony evading and 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a deadly weapon.

Amazingly, there were no injuries to officers or citizens during this incident.
