SAN FRANCISCO – Tis the season, for package thefts. The San Francisco Police Department recently arrested a suspect for package thefts with the help of a social media post.

A house on Natick Street had packages stolen on October 22nd and a home surveillance video captured the suspect in the act. It turns out that another neighbor three blocks away also posted a photo of the same suspect committing the same crime.

Further social media teamwork resulted in home surveillance video of the woman and her vehicle.

Officers were then able to identify and arrest the suspect the next day. 32-year-old Antoinette Redus was arrested near the 2500 block of Aurelius Walker Drive.

On November 29th Redus pleaded guilty to second degree burglary.  The SFPD thanks the “collaboration between police, prosecutors and the community, along with the victim’s use of social media to communicate and empower themselves.”
