Fatal stabbing in El Centro leaves friends asking “why?”

EL CENTRO – A fatal stabbing occurred in the 1900 block of Austin Road on November 8th.

Imperial County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location, where they discovered a man with severe injuries. Unfortunately, Emergency Medical Personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim has since been identified as 58 year old Ruben Beltran of El Centro.

Police quickly identified 30-year-old James McDaniel as the suspect in the stabbing. He was summarily arrested and charged with homicide.

McDaniel is currently in custody with his bail is set at $1,000,000.

Various posters on the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page noted that both the victim and suspect were “nice guys,” asking, “what happened?”
