Houseboat burglars caught in the act by marina

MELONES LAKE – A pair of suspects recently burglarized houseboats at the New Melones Lake Marina.

A deputy responded on November 1st at 7:00 a.m. to the report of a burglary in progress.

The caller reported seeing two males pushing a wheelbarrow full of items away from the closed marina.

The responding deputy made contact with two suspects, who were in possession of the wheelbarrow. The deputies discovered that the wheelbarrow contained multiple stolen items –

  • a Yeti ice chest;
  • iPads;
  • a depth finder;
  • high end fishing bags and equipment.

As an investigation began, Marina employees reported that multiple house boats had been broken into.

32-year-old Brooke Prentiss of Sonora and 22-year-old Morgan Styre of St Keyes were arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary, grand theft and conspiracy.

Their bail is $150,000.

In addition, Styre was booked for two outstanding warrants out of Tuolumne County. In 2014 he was charged with animal cruelty in the death of a Jack Russell terrier.
