Vehicle search turns up loaded handguns and narcotics

Jurupa Valley – Two men were arrested for possession of loaded weapons and amphetamines on Halloween day in Jurupa Valley.

Members of the Region 7 Regional Gang Task Force conducted an occupied vehicle search at the intersection of Mill Creek and Sky Meadow streets in Jurupa Valley at 2:20 p.m. on October 31.

Following the search, police arrested Andrew Cornejo, 20, of Kingman, Arizona and Zachary Sowers, 19, of Denver, Colorado.

Officers found both men in possession of loaded handguns with high capacity magazines concealed on their persons. Cornejo had methamphetamine in his possession. Officers also discovered that he is a member of a criminal street gang.

In addition, police found three weapons inside the vehicle and determined that one of the weapons was reported stolen out of Arizona in 2012. Both Cornejo and Sowers were booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on felony weapon and drug charges.
