CALEXICO – The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office recently announced the biggest marijuana bust of the year.
Authorities seized 23,000 pounds (over 11 tons) of illegal marijuana on Thursday May 25.
In a joint effort with US Border Patrol and US Customs, deputies searched a commercial truck. Inside the truck they discovered their huge haul.
Apparently, the cargo (“suspicious pallets”) didn’t check out with the manifest. Therefore, the search led them to the truck’s illegal contents.
Authorities estimate the street value of the truck’s contents to be over $18 million. They also said that the marijuana will be “destroyed at an undisclosed location.”
The ICSO also announced that they made no arrests in this case.
