SUSANVILLE – Here’s a friendly reminder – don’t leave your idling car unattended. Also, don’t leave guns inside your unattended car. A Richmond Road resident reported a stolen car on Wednesday morning. What made the report even more interesting was that fact that the resident left two guns in the vehicle.

SPD officers came to the 600 block of Richmond Road to gather information. Two hours later LCSD deputies spotted the stolen vehicle on Lake Forest Drive, headed towards Highway 36.

The driver did not stop, but sped away into Susanville. After crashing the stolen vehicle, the suspect ran a bit. An officer nabbed him in Lassen High School’s parking lot.

30-year-old Sacramento resident Christopher Domingo Abaya faces vehicle theft and evading charges.

SPD offers thanks to the various authorities who worked together to quickly make this arrest. They add, “we urge you to not leave your vehicles unsecured while warming them up.” If you leave them “idling and insecure they are an east target for thieves.”

Apparently Abaya has done this before, both in Susanville in 2016  and in Sacramento in 2012.
