PINOLE — Two men suspected of breaking into a vehicle on February 2 cornered themselves on a dead end—making it easier for Pinole police officers to arrest them.

A witness saw two men burglarizing a vehicle parked on the 500 block of Hanley Court shortly after 3:30 a.m. The suspects were attempting to flee when officers responded to the report of the break-in.

The suspects were spotted driving away in a late model white Oldsmobile sedan heading towards Tara Hills Drive.

Officers located the suspected vehicle within a few minutes on Tara Hills Drive, following the suspects as they veered on to Limerick Road, where their luck began running out.

The suspects continued southbound on Limerick Road, turning left on to Dolan Way, and straight into the driveway at Tara Hills Elementary School located at 2300 Dolan Way in San Pablo, leaving them no further escape route possible as police closed in.

With assistance from the Hercules Police Department, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputies, and a K-9 unit from San Pablo, officers from Pinole arrested two 27-year-old residents from Pinole.

The driver Orlando Padilla was apprehended inside his vehicle. The second suspect tried to get away, but with the aid of a police dog, Sean Donohue was captured too. Both men were positively identified by the witness who saw them on Hanley Court.

Padilla, who coincidentally was being sought for an outstanding arrest warrant, is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility with bond for release denied. Padilla’s latest charges include second degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, and probation violation related to three prior arrests.

Donohue is charged with second degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, obstructing a police officer and probation violation. He’s being held at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $160,000 bail.
