Identity Thief Suspect Nabbed with Mail Belonging to 30 People

ANTIOCH – Apparently stolen U.S. mail and a falsified driver’s license were recovered by police officers who arrested a suspected identify thief on January 31st.

Police received a tip from someone who reported seeing the suspect on the 2000 block of Eucalyptus Way at 7:47 a.m. on Tuesday. The suspect was recognized from a photo posted on Nextdoor.com, a social networking website.

When officers questioned the suspect, and after searching him, they found an altered driver’s license with the suspect’s photo and someone else’s identify information, along with mail belonging to 30 individuals.

Antioch officers arrested Joseph Malfitano, 34, who was charged with identify theft and false impersonation. He’s in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility. His bail was set at $35,000.
