TORRANCE — Investigators from Torrance PD announced yesterday the January 17th arrest of five suspects from Houston, Texas, who have been charged with robbery, conspiracy, and vehicle burglary in the Southland.

The investigators believe that the suspects were involved in ‘Bank Jugging,’ described as “suspects who sit in bank parking lots and watch customers carrying bank bags. The suspects follow customers they believe possess large amounts of cash and look for an opportunity to burglarize their vehicles or rob them directly.”

On January 16th, a victim reported losing $16,000 during a lunch inside a local Taco Bell while his vehicle was being burglarized. The investigation discovered multiple suspects.

The next day, investigators who followed the suspects when they robbed a customer leaving a Hanmi Bank branch in Los Angeles recovered stolen money and binoculars.

Torrance PD urges all bank and credit union customers to secure their bank bags and envelopes. Residents are requested to stay vigilant and report all suspicious activity.

Any information should be directed to the Torrance PD’s Detective and Special Investigations Division.
