Chase Ends with Car Crashing into House, 3 Burglary Suspects in Custody

FREMONT – A trio of suspected burglars who tried fleeing from police were caught on August 1, shortly after their getaway car slammed straight into a house, a short distance away from Brookvale Elementary School.

A car chase followed not long after police responded to a 911 call on Tuesday morning, about an attempted burglary on the 36700 block of Marlowe Street; where a resident told police that someone knocked on their door, but the occupant didn’t answer, and then the occupant saw someone jumping over their backyard fence.

While responding officers were searching for suspects seen running away towards American High School, a patrol officer spotted a vehicle near Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area matching the description of a car associated with another burglary, which had occurred Monday on Farwell Drive—where a witness had provided investigating officers with a license plate number.

When an officer attempted to stop the car, the driver sped away leading the officer on a car chase. The car traveled west on Isherwood Way, crossing Paseo Padre Parkway, turned on to Nicolet Avenue, then turned into the Isherwood Place cul de sac, where it plowed into a house and severely damaged it.

Two suspects were arrested in front of the house Tyrell J. Smith, 25, of Oakland and Dillard Delano, 20, of Richmond; but a third man ran away, jumping over fences in the residential neighborhood.

The third suspect Marshawn Roland, 23, of Richmond, was located a short distance away on Blair Place, where he was arrested about 45 minutes later at 11:30 a.m.

Smith, who had an outstanding arrest warrant, is charged with two counts of residential burglary and evading a police officer. He’s in custody at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Delano is charged with two counts of residential burglary. Bail was set at $75,000 for his release from Santa Rita Jail.

Rolland is charged with one count of residential burglary, and he is suspected of being involved with the attempted burglary on Marlowe Street. He’s being housed at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

Detectives are investigating whether these same three suspects are responsible for residential burglaries that occurred earlier this week on Hudson Place, Kipling Place and Farwell Drive.
