Parolee Shoots Fresno Man

Valerius Walters

FRESNO — Early on Saturday morning, a 46-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the 4800 block of Polk Avenue.  The victim was taken to the hospital and is reportedly still recovering from his injuries.

At first it was thought that an 11-year-old girl was also shot.  Thankfully, it turned out that she was struck by drywall during the shooting.

The investigation over the weekend determined that 39 year-old Valerius Walters was the alleged shooter.  He was already on parole for assault with a deadly weapon.

On Monday, detectives conducted surveillance of an apartment in the 2100 block of N. Marks Avenue.  They observed Walters leave his apartment and get into an SUV.

Not long after that, they arrested Walters  and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon and a felon in possession of a firearm.
