MILPITAS — The Milpitas Police Department has announced the arrest of multiple individuals on March 16, 2017.

Sonia Benitez

According to Sergeant Abbie Serrano, “On February 16, 2017, at approximately 6 P.M., Milpitas Police detectives saw a green 1998 Honda Civic driving into the parking lot of a shopping center on South Park Victoria Drive.”

Initiating a traffic stop, the officer contacted 28-year-old Sonia Benitez and 32-year-old Marcos Fabian Tamayo, both of Milpitas. The officers checked the license plate and discovered that the car had been reported stolen out of Redwood City just a month earlier.

A search of the vehicle by Milpitas Detectives revealed that the suspects were in possession of additional stolen property. There was also evidence of narcotics and burglary tools used by the suspects to break and enter other vehicles. Benitez was found in possession of a credit card that was taken from a stolen vehicle prior to her being arrested on February 14, 2017.

Both Benitez and Tamayo were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for automobile theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of burglary tools. A records checked revealed that Benitez was on probation in Santa Clara County.  She was subsequently booked on a no release bail due to the violation of probation.
