Charged with Murder in DUI Deaths

Cameron Oliver

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY — 25-year-old Santa Maria resident Cameron Oliver had been out of custody after posting $100,000 bail following his arrest earlier in the month on charges of DUI, until February 23rd when Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley obtained a no-bail arrest warrant and had him remanded to the custody of the Santa Barbara County Jail.

Mr. Oliver’s life took an abrupt turn on February 6th when the car he was driving “veered off the roadway, crashed through a fence, struck a concrete bench, and overturned,” according to the media reports issued by the California Highway Patrol.

Consequent to that accident, two 37-year-old Santa Maria women died, with a third victim suffering minor injuries.

Those deaths inspired Dudley to have Oliver arrested and booked on what she enumerated to the press as “two counts of murder and felony driving with blood alcohol content exceeding .08 percent and causing bodily injury to a third passenger.”

According to Dudley, Oliver may also face the additional special allegations of “having a blood alcohol content above .15 percent, driving at least 30 mph above the speed limit, and having been convicted of a prior DUI offense.”

Evidence presented in the allegations, in fact, indicate that Oliver’s blood alcohol exceeded .19 percent and that the car he was driving was moving down the public thoroughfare at more than 125 mph.
