Shooter Misses Intended Targets at Park, Hits Homeless Man

John Major

FRESNO — Courthouse Park is located next to the Sheriff’s headquarters at 2200 Fresno Street. Surprisingly, the call of “multiple shots fired” at the park came in on Monday afternoon.

In fact, deputies heard the shots from their headquarters and responded immediately.

Deputies quickly apprehended the alleged shooter and two of his intended targets. Neither of the intended victims had been shot, although a bullet grazed the shirt of one of them.

However, a 64-year-old homeless man sitting on a park bench was shot in his upper body.  He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

24-year-old John Major was arrested and the gun he had tossed was found.

Detectives think the shooting was not random and was possibly gang-related.
