BEAUMONT — So many of these stories start with a traffic stop, and this one is no different.
It began near midday Tuesday when BPD conducted said traffic stop at Singleton Road near Interstate 10.
It wasn’t long before the driver of the car admitted that he drove around to various cities, stealing mail. A large collection of checks were discovered in the car.
20-year-old Los Angeles resident Anthony Garcia was arrested on charges of stolen property, burglary tools and identity theft.
The total amount of checks in Garcia’s possession totaled over $31,000. The checks came from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and Kern counties, as well as Henderson, NV.
Police know that at least one of the checks was reported stolen from a mailbox in Bakersfield.
Authorities will also pursue federal charges in this case.
