Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting in Desert Hot Springs

DESERT HOT SPRINGS — On November 25, 2022 around 11:45 PM, the DHS police officers were dispatched to the 11000 block of Cactus Drive in regards to an alleged shooting.

Responding officers discovered an adult male who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene after officers attempted to save him.

Detectives then arrived to take over the investigation. Over the next few weeks, the detectives executed multiple search warrants.

On December 8, 2022, detectives, along with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office Gang Impact Team, executed their final search warrant in Palm Springs.

Detectives identified Richard Douglas Taylor Jr. (31), of Palm Springs as the primary suspect. Police arrested and booked Taylor to the Riverside County Jail in Banning.

On December 13, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office filed charges that include murder and enhancements related to the use of a firearm during a felony.

Taylor remains in custody on $1 million bail.
