Jeweler Pilfers Four Rings Worth $40,000


IRVINE – Last Thursday Irvine Police arrested 27-year-old Daniel Cervantes for grand theft.  The self-proclaimed jeweler listed businesses in Irvine and Santa Ana, but the addresses were not legitimate.

Cervantes operated under “Diamonds are Forever” and “Cervantes Jewelers.”

One customer gave him a 2-carat heirloom platinum ring for a polishing, so that it could be used for a marriage proposal.  In had been in the owner’s family for four generations. Cervantes kept the ring.

At least four instances of such theft occurred, totaling over $40,000.  Also, in all four cases, weddings were postponed because of the “jeweler’s” actions.

IPD adds, “At the time of his arrest, Cervantes did not reveal the whereabouts of the stolen property. Anyone with information on the items or who believes they are a victim in this case is asked to contact Irvine Police Department Detective Kristi Valentine at 949-724-7188 or”
