A Santa Ana man was arrested after an $8,000 bike was stolen off a car bike rack in Irvine.

The week of August 15th, a friend of the bike owner witnessed Estevan Aguilar, 25, steal the bicycle by cutting off the lock and removing the bike from the rack on the back of the vehicle.  The car was parked at the William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine.

The witness contacted police, who found Aguilar riding the bike in a neighborhood nearby.  Once Aguilar realized he had been spotted, he fled on the bicycle.  The pursuit was nearly over once Aguilar reached a dead-end road, at which point he jumped off the bike and over a fence to hide in some bushes.  Officers located and arrested him shortly afterwards.  The bicycle was recovered and returned to its owner.

Aguilar faces charges of felony grand theft and evading police.  He was booked at Orange County Jail.
