2 Murdered in Chinatown, Suspect Arrested 4 Days Later

Hop Sing Tong Benevolent Association

LOS ANGELES – On Thursday afternoon, the Hop Sing Tong Benevolent Association on Gin Ling Way in Chinatown was the scene of a double murder.

37-year-old Vinh Quok Dao, a former member of the club who had been “estranged from the LA area” but had recently returned, entered the social club and demanded $400 from one of the members for an impound fee.

After being refused, Dao brought out a 6″ buck knife and attacked his unwilling benefactor, as well as another man who tried to help his friend fend off the attack.

Both men, longtime members of the club who played mahjong and loved spending time with their friends, died from their injuries. KTLA reports that one of the men was the president of the tong (association).

Dao ran from the club and remained on the run for a few days until he was arrested in Rosemead on Monday.
