An investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy was recently completed with the Sacramento City Coroner’s Office determining that it was a homicide.

Sacramento Police detectives—working with the District Attorney’s Office—recently obtained an arrest warrant for Marcus Shepard, 32. He was taken into custody on Thursday, January 18, 2017, on suspicion of murder and assault in the death of a child younger than eight years old.  Shepard was booked into Sacramento County Jail.

On May 2, 2016, the Sacramento Fire Department was called to the 3700 block of Lilly Street in Sacramento at approximately 10:00 p.m. regarding a call about an unconscious child.
