DNA Evidence Links Man to Two Rapes

Marco Antonio Garcia Perez

SAN BERNARDINO – A rape occurred on April 17, 2014, in which a man kidnapped an adult female, taking her in his car to a field and assaulting her before dropping her off.

Then, on May 28, 2015, another rape occurred in which a suspect armed with a screwdriver approached a walking female, forced her to a secluded area and raped her.

Both victims were taken to the hospital and a DNA profile was taken from them.  The profiles from both rapes matched, but no suspect was identified from the DNA.

Then, on November 8, 2016, 24-year-old Marco Antonio Garcia Perez was arrested for possessing a stolen car.  In the process of being booked, a DNA sample was taken from Perez and, after being entered into the CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), matched the DNA taken from both rape victims.

On January 13, 2017, Perez was arrested, booked, and held on a $2 million bail.  Police feel there may be other victims, and ask “Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Detective Bureau at the Central Station. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463), or you may leave information on the We-Tip website at www.wetip.com.”
